Henge
A sculptural ring hand-carved from natural smokey quartz collected in the creeks around Tabulam, New South Wales.
The stone has a soft translucent clarity with delicate internal mineral structures suspended within the crystal. Light moves through the quartz, revealing subtle inclusions formed over geological time.
Smokey quartz from the Tabulam region is part of the broader geology of the New England Orogen in northeastern New South Wales. Quartz crystals in this area formed deep underground within granites and pegmatites of the New England Batholith. Over millions of years, hot mineral-rich fluids moved through fractures in the rock, allowing large quartz crystals to grow slowly within natural cavities. As the surrounding rock gradually erodes, these crystals are released and carried into local creek systems where they can be found today.
The ring was cut, drilled, and shaped from a single piece of quartz before being carefully sculpted and polished using lapidary techniques.
Each piece is carved from solid stone, allowing the natural character of the crystal to guide the final form.
