Oculus
A one of a kind ring carved from smokey quartz found in the creeks of Tabulam in northern New South Wales.
The stone is softly translucent, revealing intricate internal structures that formed as the crystal slowly grew deep within ancient granite formations. Fine natural fractures and mineral inclusions create a delicate internal landscape that becomes visible as light passes through the quartz, giving the ring a quiet depth and clarity.
The circular form emphasises the natural transparency of the quartz, allowing the stone to catch and diffuse light from every angle. Subtle variations in tone shift between pale grey and warm smokey hues depending on how the ring is viewed.
Smokey quartz from the Tabulam area is associated with the broader geological formations of the New England region, where quartz crystals developed within granites and pegmatites over millions of years before being released into local creek systems through erosion.
This piece was cut, drilled, shaped and polished from a single piece of quartz using traditional lapidary techniques, carefully revealing the natural character of the crystal.
